in terms of the origin of the phrase among moron circles on 4chan being a "chad" is definitely about genetics, the whole idea being that confident people are confident because their attractive genetic makeup allows them to be, whereas incels are unhappy simply because their genes make them ugly and unable to form relationships.

Good point. The dynamic between Vrissy and Harry definitely seems like Vrissy has a whole lot of agency in that relationship, which may point to Harry not being quite so much of a chad. Then again, we'd probably need to see Harry interact with more of his peers to find out whether he's got recurring chadlike tendencies.

It was established before the epilogues that humans can feel quadrant-based romantic emotions. Hence, John is pitch for Terezi, Rose briefly waxed ashen for Gamzee and Terezi, and then throughout the epilogues we have a few examples of human quadrants. It also works the opposite way, with Karkat seemingly being strictly monogamous, and Calliope apparently has flushed or pale feelings despite that not being the norm for cherubs.

As a general rule, though, I think quadrants are just the norm on Earth C, especially since 2/4 of it's composite cultures had quadrant romance.

The troll universe’s carapaces are confirmed to have the quadrant system in some way re: Spades Slick and Snowman. But that’s not canonically confirmed for the human universe’s carapaces literally ever. The poster children for kismesissitude in the troll reality (Jack Noir and the Black Queen) resulted in outright murder in the humans’ medium instead, so i’d say the jury is out on that

Now that I think about it, is the most recent update implying some quadrant blurring between Vrissy and Tavros C? Vriska seemed a little confused about their relationship and apparently A Mom is as well. I always got the impression that quadrant blurring was kind of the equivalent of being LGBT for trolls, between Karkat, then Azdaja and Konyyl. Gosh, I guess it's time for a new, Advanced course in troll romance.

I don't think it's so much "humans can experience quadrant based attraction" as it is "some humans are willing to enter quadrant based relationships for cultural or personal reasons". this is even the case in real life. following on from this I don't think vriska jr's quadrant confusion is so much a symptom of vascillation or smearing or whatever you want to call it as it is a symptom of humans not actually being able to feel kismesifeelings and therefore not being great at forming polyquadromamorous relationships. also they are teenagers and teenagers are bad at romance.

Saying humans can't feel the kismesis feelings is disingenuous, as if humans are not hateful. You could say that humans can't feel matespritship feelings either. We don't define our emotions based on our relationship identity to the same degree, but humans get off to hatred all the dang time. Is that almost always abusive? Yeah, but that doesn't make it any less real.

But this doesn't explain why Vrissy, a troll, gets it wrong.

I've been putting off writing an essay about this, but the clue to whether humans can feel those troll emotions are in their romcoms. They're literally human romcoms with grey skin, horns, and marriage replaced with filial drones. Slap-Slap-Kiss is a gotdang TV Trope. In romcoms, characters are trying to figure out how they feel about each other, and whether the pursuit is worthwhile. Usually these human romcoms have endings where the main couple ends up as matesprits, since that's our cultural focus, but there's often a rival for the love interest's affections. It's just that, in troll versions of these movies, the romantic rival and the protagonist hook up too. Like how Dave and Karkat ended up together! ... At least, I guess? I should write the dang essay so I won't waste hours writing a forum post and worrying about "killing my darlings"; it'd save me so much time.

My theory is that Vrissy is confused by concepts such as "loving to hate" and "hating to love." She simplifies them as "love" and "hate" respectively, but we're more inclined to simplify those conversely. I'm not too certain about this, because we haven't seen much of Vrissy, and I also don't give a shit
